Article Chitika, Inc. is one of the largest search-targeted advertising networks, serving millions of search driven impressions per month, and growing. For result-driven advertisers and media buyers, Chitika offers a keyword-targeted search marketing program, proven to extend the visibility of SEM campaigns beyond the search engine results page, and into content websites in the Chitika Network. What so special about Chitika? Chitika does not scan the content of the page to display relevant ads (like for example Google does), they scan the search strings which were used to enter the website. As a result you receive a quite relevant traffic and high CTR (click-through rate).

Chitika is one of the most popular alternative PPC networks after Google. However it has some advantages over regular networks. For example it provides a rather high commission payout. You are going to see healthy.50-2.00 clicks often enough.

Now about the module. This module was developed to automatically insert Chitika | Premium code into the content which is used for posts to Wordpress blog and Static pages generated with SGW. Before using this module you need to register with Chitika as publisher and get approved to receive your publisher username (https://chitika.com/publishers.php).

Chitika username – a unique username you receive when you register with Chitika. Be very careful with this parameter as it enables your advertising campaign. You will see your Username in your account at Chitika.

As soon as you receive your Chitika username you can set ad units from the interface of this module. All the settings are absolutely the same.

Channel - Channels allow you detailed tracking on your Chitika ad units. Chitika allows you to specify your own channel names, so you can set meaningful names like "180x150 Side Unit" or "Home Page In the Morning". Your reports can then be broken down by channel name. This allows you to break down the performance of your Chitika | Premium units by metrics you define.

It was mentioned that Chitika shows perfectly targeted ads to your search engine traffic. But this concerns only USA and Canada users come to your site via a search engine. For users from the other countries and NON-Search traffic you will have to choose the way Chitika will show its ads:

Chitika ads for NON-SEARCH traffic:
Collapse into nothing – you may want to hide any advertizing to your regular visitors in order to not bother them with any additional advertising.

Show a different ad (such as Google AdSense) – you will need to enter URL to your alternate ad. The alternate URL feature allows you to make use of your ad space in the event that Chitika is not able to show a paying Chitika | Premium ad (for example: traffic from non-accepted countries or non-search traffic). In such an event, the Chitika system will redirect to the URL you specify.

Show Chitika Backfill - Chitika will show non-targeted filler ads.

Now you can chose the size of your Chitika ad unit. Use Ad format and size option. Choose the one you need from the drop-down menu.

Note: not all sizes will work for Show Chitika Backfill option.

Ad position within the content – this option will help you placing your ad unit to any spot of the content. Choose the place you want to put your ad unit in and the program will automatically insert it into the published content.

Now you can customize your ad. Choose the color for titles, text, links and background of the ad and also a font for the text in the unit. See the way your units will look like and find the most appropriate variant.

The last but far not the least setting of the module is the verification that you understand that Chitika ad units will be shown only to search engine traffic from USA and Canada. For non-search engine and international traffic ad unit will be shown the way you set in Chitika ads for NON-SEARCH traffic option. This verification is required by Chitika so you MUST check-mark it in order to finish the modules settings.

To see the example of how your Chitika ad unit will look like on the page with content use "Preview" button.

Note: you will NOT be able to see the ad on your site. This unit is hidden on your page, and will only display to your search engine traffic (from US and CA). But you can preview Chitika ad in 2 ways:
1) If you are from the US or CA, you can hit the page generated with SGW page from any major search engine (Google, Yahoo, Bing, etc.) or
2) Add #chitikatest=keyword to the end of the URL of the needed page in your browser's address bar (for example - www.yourdomain.com#chitikatest=doctor). Press ENTER and refresh the page. You will now see how the Chitika ad looks on your site for whatever keyword you used in the test (in the example, we used "doctor").
